E. D. Nixon is little known for one who played such a large roll in the civil rights movement in
Alabama. A Pullman car operator and a strong believer in equal rights, Nixon stood when others feared to.
One litte known fact about Nixon is that he actually initiated the Montgomery bus boycott. After bailing Rosa Parks out of jail he called up Martin Luther King and told him that something had to be done about segregation, especilly that on transportation was to be targeted.
At Mr. King's request Nixon agreed to spearhead the project. A meeting was called to suggest and arange a boycott targeting the Montgomery bus system. Mr. Nixon rose and told those gathered that they needed to stop acting like frightened children hiding and do something about their situation. So E. D. Nixon, unknown to many, was one of the greatest contributers in the civil rights movement.
