1st Affirmative Action
Perspective
A. Phillip Randolph was the spark that ignited the first unofficial affirmative action. As a union leader, he was concered about the lack of colored workers in WWII factories. He proposed that the percentage of tax dollars paid by colored people should correspond with the percentage of jobs that colored workers received in factories. For example, if colored people paid 14% of the tax dollars in the country, than a minimmun of 14% of the workers in a factory should be colored, if possible.
