Jester Hairston directed a mass choir in Idaho in the 60's. I was one of the students in one of the high schools who sang his songs under his direction. The music has stayed with me, the heartfelt music has changed my life in fact.
This was music like nothing I had ever heard or sung before...Elijah Rock with its mix of whispering and shouting and pure enthusiasm, I can still feel it.
I have been looking for references to Jester Hairston and was so pleased to find the information on this site. I would love to know more about him, particularly how he came to Idaho and where to find his arrangement of spirtuals in a form a small church choir could attempt.
