I knew about Dorothy Dandridge before the HBO biography came out. I had seen Bright Road on T.V. several years before and I have managed to secure several of her movies.
For me, Dorothy is like many of us who have talent but never fully have any opportunity for it to be realized. But there she is. A diamond in the rough, that was discovered by many of us decades after she left this world. The good news that we were able to find her. The irony is that Halle Berry got a Global Globe award for her portrayal of a woman who was barely recognized outside the black community during her lifetime.
I was born in the mid 60's. I missed out on a lot of early Black cinema so it is thrilling to find out everything I can about folks like Dorothy, The Nicholas Brothers, etc. I feel like more I find out about the past the more I can shape my future. And that their struggles are still our struggles today.
Thanks, Dorothy for being a new found treasure in Black Cinema.
