James Baldwin's books were some of the ones circulating through the Black community. Baldwin's words hit home to many. There were very few Black writers, and he was one of the few in the
recognition for his efforts.
A lot of the writers ended up doing these little Sepia, True Romance things, rather than being able to express themselves. He was one of the few serious writers during that time.
James Baldwin was a brilliant speaker, playwright, essayist, actor, interpreter, artist, all of the above. But he was one of these people who challenged racism and discrimination at every level he could. He couldn't find a comfort zone whenever he felt it, directly or indirectly.
He was a world citizen; he lived in France and South America. He hated discrimination so much he didnt live in the US a lot. But when civil rights came along, he was right there at the front marching along with everyone else. James Baldwin donated money and time, and whenever there was need for his presence he was there.
