Blood Divided

Perspective
Charles Drew

Charles Drew was a physician and a surgeon during a time when it was hard for Black people to actually become professionals. Before his research, a lot of people died from blood loss because you couldn't store blood.

What's ironic about his story is that he made this discovery, and he was working with the Armed Forces, and they decided they had to separate the Black blood from the White blood. He protested, and finally he resigned from his position because of the issue with wanting to discriminate the blood supply.

He was killed in a car accident, and urban legend says that because he was Black, he wasn't admitted into the first hospital he went to, and by the time they got him to a hospital that treated Black people, he had bled to death. Some say that didn't happen, some say it did.
