I am only a 15 year old African American female. I have seen HBO's "The Josephine Baker Story" and it's a shame that she only recieved attention and recognition only in Europe. I understand it was a different time but there were a lot of Black singers and actresses that got attention back then.
Was some of White America intimidated by beautiful black women who could sing? Well I think so. I feel that since segregation and the "real racism" was about to start they didn't need a colored woman all over there radio stations.
I definately am glad I don't have to go through what my grandmother and her mother went through. I am also glad that Halle Berry, Angela Basset, Vivica A. Fox, Lela Rochon, Lena Horne, and many other great Black actresses have paved the way.
I am especially thankful for Dorothy Dandridge. We can do many things now because of her. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts. Peace and love to all and for all. Let's all stick together, Black and White, and struggle together.
