I think that this web site is amazing sure i was just on it for a few minutes but everyone should know abot the things that happened before most kids were born in my class at least because im in a sixth grade class and most of the children have no idea about the things that happened long ago even not so long ago i think that it should be mandatory to look at the sites like this during black history month i know that i would look at this again because i think that its important to know about history.

WOW!I saw the movie on HBO "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge and I didn't know she was till I saw the movie so then after I saw the movie I was like I have go to see what this woman really looks like I have go to read and find out more about her I was absolutly amazed by this woman so I was searching and then I finally realized this woman was a beautiful, talented ,woman.
See me being only 12 years old and not being black I also realized that so many people were racists and I was also really amazed of the fact that all she did was put her foot in a pool and they had people, black people drain it and clean it.
Dororthy Dandridge was, no is a legend to all people no matter what race or she should be.You see I am so amazed by her I begged my mom to rent "Carmen Jones" and we are going to rent it tonight and all those racists out there you see what determination, perseverance, and hard work will do and you know racists she was colored and she made it to the top father any racist person will!!!!

I really love your website, however, WHY do you have John Wayne added here? Did you know this man was a supreme racist? He felt that African-Americans were not the equal of whites. It's almost insulting to the other notable figures mentioned on this website to have this man included here. He should be removed.

i think who ever did this should be punished for life. He was a hansome young man who did not deserve to die. all b/c of him saying bye baby to the clerk he got killed. i think before you kill someone think about it b/c you would not want some one to do you or your child. if they cuold have wip him it would have been better then killing the boy or not even wip him just talk to him or tell his parents or gaurdian.butt i geuss thats how it was back then.well thats what i had on my mind. so i geuss i will go now bye.

She is a beautiful actress that had many up and downs throughout her life.Every struggle she had rather it was good or bad she is an incredible African American Woman that didn't get the recongition that she deserved because of her skin color. However, still to this day I would like to thank her for making a difference for African American Actress.God Bless

I just want to say that i found out about the murder of Emmitt when i was in the 4th grade. My classmates and i were devastated. We were young so we were like wow he is so cute you know. Than when the story came up and we found out he was murdered we were in tears i mean running to the bathroom crying. We talked about his murder for weeks no months and we just couldn't beleive how people could just have so much hate to take a young boys life for nothing. No harm was done to anyone but Emmitt and his family and all of the black race. I feel so sad that this kind of thing could happen. I am only in the tenth grade now and to this day i must say that i always ask people do you know about Emmitt Till? If you don't let me feel you in. I ask my teachers please see if you find that video i watched so we can truly see how blessed we are today. We didn't have to go through any of what people back than went through so i can't even imagine how people felt. Although i didn't know him at all i know of him and his memmory will be in my heart and on my mind for a very very long time Thank You

I first saw Mahalia Jackson on television when I was a youngster in Tennessee. She would sing just before the television station went off the air for the night. The story on Emmitt Till is so tragic and unforgettable. It's just amazing how someone or anyone for that matter can live a wonderful life after killing someone. These men had no heart. Although I feel that we have upgraded since then, we still have racism in this world, but no matter what, God will see us through this rough time and one day we will all be in heaven and thanking Emmitt Till for helping start the civil rights movement. Thank You Emmitt!

I have only read the brief biography of Dr. Charles Drew. While it is a good summary of Dr. Drew's life, it does contain quite a few typographical errors. Whenever I see such errors in a document that children might use for research, I lose faith in the reliability of the source of information. Does no one edit these documents? I would be willing to help with such a task, as well as with fact-checking, if such a services are needed.

I think two people in particular deserves some type of recognition, Nina Mae Mckinney a.k.a "the black Garbo" and Josephine Baker a.k.a "the creole queen of the 20's" both of these women exuded a sort of sexuality & energy that was authentic & non-threatening. I'm only 16 yet I find them wonderful, absolutely amazing they were!!!.

I am so very sorry about Mr. Till. My husband Omer J. Jeffrey, Sr. and I Jennene Jeffrey were also an interracial couple.
The FBI looked for us but by that time we were already married. My Mother and Father, Myrtle Lawrence and William Lawrence had taught us "Red and Yellow Black and White, they are precious in His sight. Jesus Loves the little children of the world." When my Father found out about us he said, "Yes but I didn't teach you to marry one!!!!" We had three beautiful children. Omer, Jr., Michael Christian, and Teresa Rochelle.
Omer and Teresa went on to be full time missionaries. I have a daughter by my first marriage, Diana Lynn, who I left to run away with Omer,Sr. We had to leave Tulsa, OK because his Father Rev. Jeffrey told him that there would be some White Men coming to his home. And sure enough 30 minutes later his sister, Charline said there were five white men there. I don't know who it was. In 1965 we were in the Watts Riot. My husband and his friend Chuck Payne went into Watts and took pictures. My father-in-law Rev. Charles J. Jeffrey came to LA to protect us. He sat on the front porch with a shot gun. He was so neat. He always wore long johns under his suit even in July!!!!
I praise God for His protection. May God continue to Bless each and everyone....
I love you with the Love of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!!!

As a young girl growing up I heard of his name but never knew what happened. I am very glad that i had a chance to read the story about Emmitt Tills. It is so sad that this child had to die senceless dealth over something so petty. He hadn't even begun to enjoy his life. I have children and I don't know what I would have done if it were my child. I honestly think that I would of tried to kill someone. I know that his mom has passed but my love and prayers go out to his family

This case will always inspire, because of who I am and How very brave young Til was. Not only him, the four little girls killed in that blast in Alabama, atthe 16th street Baptist Church while attending sunday school.Mr. Jimmie Lee jackson who was trying to stop a state trooper from beating his mother and was shot and killed, so the United States says that 911 was the worst act of terror on American soil! Can someone help me with this. Times when Dr.King recieved over 300 threating phone calls on his life and his children and Mrs.King, some would just spit in the phone when he would answer it. Some say well, this is the past.Ok if so? Tell all those Jews who were burned and put in huge gas chambers and killed that it is just the past, well over a million plus.Well just go to the Jewish Federation and tell them. Black History is one of the richest History it is,more money is made off of our history by the whites. Books, movies, plays, bio, photographs by large media, well you do the math........ everywhere Dr. King foot touch the ground is a historical site, not just him alone either.

When I seen that picture of Emmet before his death I wanted to cry so bad because his life was tooken at the age of 14. I lost a lot of cousins at ages of 13,2,8 months and I feel that nobody doesn't matter what crime they did should die of murder or suicide. Emmet was a fine young man and for somone to take his life away like that just isn't right. Seeing the picture of him in his casket is so hard and painful. His life was tooken short, but God has a plan for all of us and God's plan for Emmet was to be in heaven with him.

I am also pursuing my college education at a time when most are settled in their careers. I had always wanted this for my self and after I had my children, the idea seemed to wane. Yet I find that my children are my greatest motivation at this time. I will be the first of my siblings to attain a bachelors degree and I want this achievement to be an example them; if I can do it, then they must do it. Success is an action word, one must act to attain it. I only hope that through my actions, my children see what can be accomplished and to try to do the same for themselves.

Dorothy Dandridge is really great even though that I've never known her Dorothy seems like a really good person.Just because she had an overdose on Tofranil.Does not mean that she wasnt a very good person.God bless her soul. She was really a good person inside.

I have a son who is in 3rd gr. He need to read a bibliography (excl. Dr. King) and complete the book report about Black History. He went to the library and there wasn't any books for the children to read and understand. Can you please assist me where I can get the resources for my son? If you have any recommendable books that I can buy from Barnes and Nobles, Please let me know at your earliest convenience.
I am surprise to find out that we do not have much resources for the children. As a parents, I would like to provide proper resources to my son, so he can be properly educated. Please advise me.

I am the color white. There is only one God. We are all His Children therefore to deny anyone regardless race, creed, or color equality is denial of my own God. It is very sad so many people do not admit this simple
this logic.

Hi May the Lord bless you and keep you.
We all originate with Noah. Noah was the beginning of all new people. The Bible speaks of Noah and his entire makeup. As we all began as one people, then the tower of Babalon dispersed everyone to different cultures, we must remember our roots. I as a white female, or that is the latest genetic
outcome of my skin, I remember from whom I came. I love all people, God's people. It is sad to remember how this country abused certain types of people and I believe if the Lord was in their hearts at that time life would be further advanced today. I look into the heart, not a color. I am all colors in my eyes and God's eyes. I continue to pray for all people that their stupid and ignorant ideas are erased and their love for one another shows them that we are all one race with different lifestyles. God bless us all and may God give you the courage to embrace your culture with dignity and grace to love and share your knowledge and gifts to the world. Thanks, Lee Ludwig

I just watched the movie about Dorothy Dandridge today starring Halle Berry and was so taken with her story. I went on the internet to research her life and was so sorry for the trials and troubles she saw. I was talking to my dad when the movie was on, and he remembered she had broken an ankle and thought that was what had killed her. The movie briefly touched on that, and I'm glad it did. Not a drunken overdose, but a blood clot from some cartilage torn loose by the ankle break. She deserves that to be known.
